A message from the Emerald Foundation Board
Hamilton is a community unlike any other I have known. This is a place people care deeply and set high expectations, values that are quite evident in the education our children receive at Hamilton Central School. As an HCS parent, I see the passion and devotion our teachers and staff bring to their work each day and I am inspired to press forward with the work of the Emerald Foundation, seeking new ways in which we can ensure that our children can dream big dreams. The reality is that we live in a time when economic shortfalls are limiting programming and resources. At the same time, there is more competition for jobs, technological advances are changing how we work and communicate and international competition is impacting industries in communities big and small. We must find creative new ways to provide today’s students with an education that positions them for success tomorrow. Fortunately, Hamilton is a community that responds well to a challenge. During a particularly tough year, thanks to generous gifts and solid stewardship of existing resources, the Emerald Foundation was able to provide more than $48,000 in new grant funds for essential programs, some of which are detailed in this report, at HCS. Looking forward, we will continue to work to mitigate the loss of core academic resources (equipment, technology, and training) amid reduced State support and budgetary constraints and, at the same time, we will help deliver the enhancements that keep Hamilton’s children academically competitive, advancing new, creative opportunities for learning. It is an honor for me to serve as president of the Hamilton Emerald Foundation. I am deeply thankful to all who have given so generously to the foundation and hope that all in the community and all who have roots here, will consider making the not-for-profit HEF among your charitable priorities this year.
